KUCHING: Poised to be one of the prime zones here, Kuching City Mall Commercial Centre is believed to be suitable for entrepreneurs or youngsters to start their own business.
The seventh phase – 42 units of single lock-up shop – of the overall project, which is situated at the New Expressway off Jalan Penrissen, has been launched.
These units are said to be `unique and rare` in the city given their affordable price and convenience for retail business.
Launching the phase last Saturday, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister`s Department Tan Joo Phoi said he believed the project would do well as more than 300,000 people were staying within a radius of seven kilometres.
“There are 1,500 units of residence in Desa Wira near here, while a few villages are located nearby,” he said, adding that the demand was there.
The Batu Kawah assemblyman was glad that the project took place in his constituency as he felt that the area had the potential for another new township.
He pointed out that the private sector in the state must grab the opportunities to translate government policies into projects of economic value.
Developer Kuching City Mall Sdn Bhd has proposed a `Market Street` and a wet market for the new commercial centre.
Tan believed that these ideas, if materialised, would enhance the popularity of the centre, adding: “More business opportunities will be provided for small and medium enterprises.”
Met by reporters later, Kuching City Mall Sdn Bhd executive director Datuk Tiong Su Kuok said he hoped the government would fully support the corporation`s project.
“Every time we say `Malaysia Boleh` and for this project, I say `Kuching City Mall Boleh`. It is the first time we have this single lock-up shop in Kuching and the location is strategic,” he added.
Among those present was Kuching City Mall Sdn Bhd director Datuk Wong Hee Toh.
